Spotted Catsharks (Scyliorhinus canicula) are among Cornwall’s most common sharks, yet most people never realise they share the sea with them.
This photograph was taken as two catsharks circled one another beneath beams of sunlight filtering through the kelp forest. They seemed calm, curious and playful, moving together through the underwater wilderness and totally ignoring my presence.
Moments like this reveal a different side of sharks than has historically been portrayed. One of connection, beauty and behaviour that is rarely seen by humans.
